About Us
PlaYarmouth is a non-profit organization that was established through the Yarmouth Development Corporation in 1997. Our mandate is to provide a venue for the visual and performing arts along the Yarmouth waterfront and throughout the town area. Play Yarmouth is not a festival! Our events start on Canada Day and run every Thursday to Sunday through the Labor Day weekend, with special events throughout the year.
Our free, open-air concerts and other events attract people from all areas of Nova Scotia, other provinces and the United States, as well as Yarmouth County. Tourists have extended their stay in Yarmouth because of our activities. Our fireworks display is the largest in Nova Scotia, excepting the Natal Day display in Halifax and in 2003 attracted approximately forty thousand people to Yarmouth’s waterfront. We are also open to community groups wishing to stage their own events, (e.g. the very well received interdenominational gospel concerts on Sunday afternoons). |
