WALTER OSTROM: GIFTS TO THE COLLECTION, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Western Branch, 341 Main St. Hours: 11 am–7 pm

Walter Ostrom is a ceramic artist who has been an influential figure in his field for more than 35 years. An expert in low-fired tin-glazed earthenware, he has revived and modernized this ceramic art form in Canada and abroad. His unique, innovative and visually striking art has been featured in collections and exhibitions worldwide, including the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Victoria and Albert Museum in England. The Nova Scotia College of Art and Design professor has been known for his generosity and nurturing spirit, he has been a teacher and mentor for generations of emerging artists.

This exhibition features gifts from the artist to the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia’s collection, including 30 dessert plates (2002) from press-molded majolica, earthenware and stoneware. Walter Ostrom: Gifts to the Collection will be on view until Spring 2008.
